Krupnik (Polish Fire Vodka) 2

alcohol, polish

1 cup water
1/2 vanilla pod
1/2 stick cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
10 cloves
1 pinch mace
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
2 cup honey
1 cup water
4 cup 190 proof alcohol

Boil the first six ingredients. When about to boil, add 1 tsp grated orange rind. Cover, remove from heat, set aside. Separately, bring to a boil 2 cups honey, 1 cup water, skimming scum until no more forms. Remove from heat, switch off all heat sources. You're about to start playing with 190 proof ethanol, which *will* ignite if it finds a heat source. Into the hot honey mixture, stir 4 cups of the alcohol, and the spice mixture, including the spices themselves. Put in canning jar and cover. Let stand overnight. Next day, train through cotton into bottle or serving carafe. Serve hot on Christmas Eve or any other time you feel like it. This recipe is from the Strybl's. Art
