Wild Rice And Pea Soup

3 quarts
1 lb dried peas
1/2 lb salt pork
1 chopped carrots
1 onions
1 turnips or rutabagas
1 cooked wild rice

In soups and stews: usually better to cook wild rice separately first, not completely done, then stir it in for the last 15 minutes of cooking Habitant pea soup with wild rice : Make this the usual way (3 quarts of water to one lb dried peas soaked overnight if whole, 1/2 lb salt pork, chopped carrots, onions, turnips, rutabagas).
