Flank Steak In Hoisin Sauce With Sautéed Mushrooms

bbq, beef - other

1 1/2 pounds flank steak
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
3 cups sliced mushrooms
3/4 cup chopped green onions
----Marinade----
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon minced ginger root
1 teaspoon minced garlic

In small bowl whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, oil, ginger and garlic. Pour over steak and let marinate in refrigerator at least 2 hours or overnight. Bring to room temperature before cooking. In large nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add garlic and mushrooms and cook for 3 minutes or until softened. Add green onions and cook for 1 minute longer. Barbecue or broil steak, basting with some of the marinade, until cooked to desired "doneness" (approximately 15 minutes). Bring remaining marinade to a boil and simmer for 3 minutes. Serve steak with mushrooms and sauce. Cut the steak across the grain thinly to ensure tenderness. Note: Overnight marinating will result in a more tender steak.
