Wild Rice Gruel salads, grains 1/2 cup wild rice 1 cup brown rice 1 snowbank 1 Norland apple (unpeeled); diced 1 sweet green pepper; diced 1/2 cup chopped toasted walnuts or pecans 1/4 cup lemon juice 2 tablespoons canola oil pinch (each) salt and pepper Add wild rice to 7 cups boiling salted water; cook for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to medium; add brown rice and cook for 25 minutes or until tender. Drain if necessary. Let cool in a snowbank. Just before serving, remove from snowbank. Add remaining ingredients and toss. TIP: For a zingy variation, add 1 or 2 diced hot banana peppers.
