Broiled Salmon Steaks With Blueberries

bbq, salmon

4 salmon steaks; about 6 ounces each
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and pepper
----SAUCE----
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion; chopped fine
1 clove garlic; chopped fine
2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon ground marjoram
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme

Sauce: In heavy medium saucepan, heat I tablespoon oil over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté for 3 minutes or until tender. Add blueberries, water, vinegar, mustard, sugar, coriander, marjoram and thyme; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring frequently. Meanwhile, brush salmon steaks with 2 tablespoons oil and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Place on greased broiler pan. (Steaks will take about 10 minutes per inch of thickness to cook.) Broil steaks until almost cooked, turning once. Brush steaks generously with blueberry sauce and broil for 1 minute; turn, brush generously with sauce and broil 1 minute (watch carefully to prevent burning). Serve with remaining sauce on the side. Serve with rice and a leafy green salad.
