Dutch Apple And Pear Cake

cakes, fruits

1/3 cup butter; softened
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 cups thinly sliced apples and/or pears; peeled
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons melted butter

This streusel-topped favorite can be made with apples or pears, or try a tasty combination of both. Cream together butter and sugar; beat in egg and vanilla. Mix together 1 cup flour, baking powder and salt; add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Spread batter evenly in greased and floured 9-inch square cake pan. Arrange sliced fruit in overlapping slices on top of batter. Mix together remaining ingredients, except cream; sprinkle over fruit. Bake in 350°F oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until tester inserted in centre comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream, sour cream or ice cream.
